April Ross

April Ross is one of the few female beach volleyball players to get medals from many Olympics. The American will play in Tokyo for her third Olympic medal along with Alix Klineman, who is a first time Olympian. Ross's goal is to win her first Olympic gold medal. In fact, at 39, it could be her last chance to do so. She remains confident though that winning the gold medal is in reach. Ross said on NBC Boston that he believes If they can play at their absolute most effective, and even play a great game, they'll win the gold. Then I will also take the chance to have luck. Ross was born in 1982 and lived within Costa Mesa California with her sister and parents, began competing in sports in Newport Harbor High School. She went on to compete in a myriad of sports in Newport Harbor High School. As well as the indoor game, she played basketball and jogged track as professional athletes. In the last sport she clearly stood out. While in high school she was a middle blocker, outside hitter and setter on the volleyball court per her college bio. She was awarded the Gatorade National Circle of Champions player of the year in 1999, for her performance. Also, she won the 2000 Orange County Athlete of the Year award in volleyball. Ross and Klineman are working together in 2017. In reality, Ross was already an established player in the scene of beach volleyball before they formed the team. In fact, she's been an active player in the world of beach volleyball for many years. In fact, Ross has won numerous tournaments, one of which was one with a legendary volleyball star. In 2007 through 2013, she was teaming by Jennifer Kessy, who is the coach she is currently. Alongside Kessy Ross was an ace on the international stage, claiming an international title in 2009. In 2012, the duo took silver in London's Olympics. Misty Maytreanor's famous team as well as Kerri Jennings claimed the gold. Ross Jennings was Walsh Jennings partner in fate when Maytreanor decided to retire. The duo went on to take home the bronze medal for beach volleyball at the Rio Olympics in the year 2016. Ross was a student athlete with the Trojans of USC prior to making the jump to professional. She played at high school and even years prior to going to the beach for professional. The USC experience was awe-inspiring. She was an All-American as well as Pac-10 Freshman of Year in the year 2000. Her Trojans were also able to make it to the Final Four. In her sophomore year, she went through a heartbreaking personal setback, but she was able to repeat as an All-American. The two seasons she spent with the Trojans, she helped them win consecutive championships. As an individual She established her spot in the history books by winning the Honda Sports Award for 2003-04. The award was presented to the top female college player of the year in America. Ross was a international relations major at USC. Unfortunately, Ross mother Margie didn't get to watch Ross rise to the most elite levels of beach volleyball fame. When Ross was in her sophomore year studying at USC her mother died of breast cancer. Ross holds her mother very dearly. Margie is an ever-present source of inspiration for her, on and off the beach.
